Creative Living Online - Third Workshop

Our third workshop was quite varied. Some of the team members presented a session in relation to the tasks they were given at the previous workshop.

Damian gave us a great presentation about AcuLearn, and using audio and video in elearning.

Naomi ran us through how to download and use Skype.

Debbie ran us through an Moodle course we will be adapting (with permission!) for our own use for the project team.

Don gave a presentation about online pedagogy.

Stephen, Meg and David then discussed the current materials for the Creative Living course!

Elluminate demonstration

On the 5th August, Greg Wood from Yellow Edge came to give the project team a demonstration of the virtual classroom software Elluminate. We all enjoyed this presentation and as some of us had only just used Elluminate during the e-trends online conference, it was particuarly fresh in our minds so we were able to then take in some of the more advanced features of Elluminate instead of learning about it for the very first time.

Creative Living Online - Second Workshop

The second workshop for our project focused around content for the Creative Living course that we will be our pilot course online. We discussed copyright issues and learning outcomes primarily. We also did a little bit of team building (!) and agreed on tasks we were all responsible for. This was a helpful step as we all came away with a clear idea of what we needed to accomplish individually throughout the coming weeks.

Tasks for the coming weeks included David / Meg / Stephen to meet and discuss learning outcomes, assessments. Damien / Naomi to research using audio / powerpoint / multi media options in Moodle. Heather to research copyright guidelines. Don to provide information on online pedagogy. Meg to supply Learning Outcomes descriptors. Debbie to begin to put together a brief Moodle training presentation. Trudy to provide link to Australian Quals Framework website. Trudy to confirm Elluminate session with Greg Wood of Yellow Edge. Trudy to work with Stephen and Meg to set up Christology and TAA sites.

The last task listed above was particularly fun and really encouraging for me as facilitator. As we had had some training in Moodle in our first workshop, and we had created a Moodle classroom specifically to hold the resources for this project, the team were becoming more and more familiar with the Moodle interface.

Consequently, we have two more classrooms in Moodle that are currently being put together by project team members. In fact, students are already using them. This will be really helpful for us to obtain feedback from the students as we go.

e-trends online conference

Well it has been a while since I've posted! I'll add a few posts today in order to update everyone on the project so far. I'll also endeavour to blog regularly from now on!

On the 19th and 20th June, some of the project team attended the online e-trends event. Between us we attended Will Richardson's session A Web of Connections: Why the Read/Write Web Changes Everything, AREDv2 (Evelyn Flitman, Linda Smart), How to get the best out of social networking tools! (Coach Carole), Podcasting, YouTube and audio/video media (Ewan McIntosh), Second Life In-World Presentation: Showcasing Australasian Educational Projects in Second Life (Jo Kay, Sean Fitzgerald), Virtual Worlds - What are They and Why do Educators Need to Pay Attention to Them? (Sean FitzGerald, Jo Kay) and also WikiEducator: Turning the digital divide into digital dividends - I hope Australia can help (Wayne Mackintosh) .

As you can see, a fairly wide variety of topics! Another benefit of attending this particular online conference was the use of the virtual classroom software Elluminate. This was our first introduction to Elluminate and we all enjoyed its capabilities and thought it was a really useful option for us to consider using ourselves in the future.

Creative Living Online - First Workshop

Our project 'launched' on Monday 4th June with an all day workshop. It was a very full day and by all accounts, a good one!!

We started the day learning about the Australian Flexible Learning Framework - thanks Allison Miller! We moved onto an Elearning presentation by Michael Coghlan - fantastic! Then we discussed things like what teamwork was (thanks Don!), the expectations of OUR team, and we spent some time discussing the course materials we will be learning to put online (a current face to face course called 'Creative Living'). We then learnt about blogs.

The last half of the day was spent on Moodle training (thanks Richard Wallace from Bright Cookie!).

All in all - a fairly full on day but a lot to take away and think about!!
